Calysto’s Take on CES 2025

CES 2025 in Las Vegas rang in the New Year by bringing more than 141,000 attendees from more than 150 different countries to the desert, in anticipation of setting the technology agenda for the next half of the decade. While that attendance fell short of pre-pandemic levels (CES 2020 drew 170,000+), execs at show organizer Consumer Technology Association (CTA) felt bullish on the continued success of the event as THE showcase for tech innovation, aimed at consumers and enterprises alike.

“Technology is reshaping industries, enhancing products and creating experiences that improve lives in ways we never thought possible,” said Kinsey Fabrizio, President, CTA. “From unlocking new efficiencies in agriculture and mining to improving care for our pets, the tech at CES 2025 will allow attendees to dive into the trends transforming our world.”

While the breadth of technology on offer was indeed diverse and kaleidoscopic, the bulk of presentations, sessions and exhibits this year revolved around a few central themes, starting with artificial intelligence, which permeated the entire event. Other key pillars for 2025 were digital health; energy and sustainability; quantum; and mobility/connected cars. But of course, the old standbys of next-gen TVs, mobile devices and accessories, IoT, silicon, and more were also well-represented.

On the enterprise side, technologies that are revitalizing vertical markets and creating new revenue streams for businesses were firmly in the spotlight – such as smart factory robotics, sensor-based IoT agriculture advancements, digital healthcare, and more – all supercharged with AI. Quantum computing, and sustainable power and energy, also apply to enterprise applications and future business models.

Top CES 2025 Themes

AI, and specifically Generative AI, was woven into almost every session track and keynoter talk. And no wonder: GenAI is driving innovation across the board, from enhancing user experiences to creating brand-new new vertical business models.

On the digital health front, the focus was on using AI and other advancements to better patient outcomes and increase longevity, lower costs for consumers, and improve access to healthcare. Wearable tech and using AI to improve accessibility were other topics, amplified by exhibitors like AARP, EssilorLuxottica, Nuvilab, OnMed, Resmed, Variowell, Withings and others.

When it came to next-gen energy, CES debuted a new conference track this year on energy transition, with a special focus on building the energy infrastructure of the future, which will be smart and GenAI-empowered. Speakers discussed embracing sustainability and green initiatives while overcoming technical and scalability barriers (such as how to satisfy the power requirements that GenAI will need to work at scale). Meanwhile, exhibitors such as Eaton, Eneos, Hitachi, Panasonic, Qnovo, SK, WePower Technologies and others showcased technologies aimed at reducing emissions and improving energy efficiency, as well as innovations in sustainable and carbon-neutral materials.

Quantum computing is closer to becoming a reality than ever before, and this year’s CES demonstrated how the industry is preparing for a post-quantum world. Advanced security and encryption, lightning-fast applications, and the implications on the use of GenAI anchored a half-day of conference programming at the show, which took place in partnership with Quantum World Congress.

And last but not least, there was mobility. Connected cars have been a staple of CES for several years now, and this year was no different—however, the show expanded its mobility focus to also include a range of transport-related industries, including construction, agriculture, marine tech, and advanced air travel. A brand-new Mobility Stage showcased programming across this entire ecosystem, with a focus on using AI for things like predictive maintenance, sustainability and increasing global connectivity. Exhibitors in the space included BMW, Brunswick, Caterpillar, Honda, John Deere, Oshkosh, and Scout Motors.

CES 2025 speakers meanwhile included a range of top brass from household-name companies, including NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, Panasonic CEO Yuki Kusumi, SiriusXM CEO Jennifer Witz, X Corp CEO Linda Yaccarino, Volvo CEO Martin Lundstedt, Accenture CEO Julie Sweet, and Waymo Co-CEO Tekedra Mawakana. Meanwhile Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian held his keynote on AI and robotics at the Sphere, in an immersive event that ended with a blistering set from musical icon Lenny Kravitz.

Media & Analysts

Representatives from tech publications, general news outlets, and niche industries were all out in force at the event, including 5,300 journalists and 700 more analysts. Additionally, according to Campaign Magazine, CES accounted for hundreds of articles and reports, and more than 500,000 mentions across social media platforms.

There were also so-called “citizen reporters” in attendance, including social media tech influencers and content creators, who made use of a dedicated “creator space” in the Central Hall Lobby of the LVCC, sponsored by Sony. Offering hands-on tech reviews and demos led the way for this cadre of reviewers and reporters.

Coverage of the show was posted by TechCrunch, Light Reading, CNET, Fierce Electronics, IoT World Today, Forbes and dozens and dozens of others.

Exhibition

This year’s event featured 4,500 exhibitors, spread out across all four halls at the LVCC, plus the conference center at the Venetian and the Aria.

Exhibits at the Venetian were thematically organized about “smart living,” including digital health, smart home, energy management, security, education, lifestyle, and food tech. The resort is also where the CES Innovation Awards Showcase was held, and it hosted Eureka Park, a startup hub featuring 1,400 newcomers from around the world, many organized into global pavilions from Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Ukraine, the U.S., and others.

The Aria meanwhile hosted the C Space this year, which was focused on entertainment dealmaking with companies like Disney anchoring the space; it courted brands, advertisers, media platforms, and content creators with the promise of sharing ideas and forging new connections.

CES Innovation Awards

The CES Innovation Awards annual competition honors “exceptional designs and engineering in technology that tackle global challenges and drive meaningful change,” across 33 technical categories. Qualified products must have had general market availability by April 1, 2024.

The 2025 awards program received a record-breaking number of submissions according to CTA, with more than 3,400 entries (a 13% increase from CES 2024). Unsurprisingly, AI was the fastest growing category with a 49.5% increase in submissions compared to 2024.

This year’s many winners and honorees were incredibly diverse and included MTS’ AI Doc, an AI diagnosis and prediction platform for female cancer; the AirFarm “food ark” from MidBar; an IoT credit card from CardNation; and even an AI-powered tennis robot that will volley back and forth with you.

“The honorees selected this year represent the range of innovation we will see at CES 2025, with products touching all areas of technology including the entire AI ecosystem,” said Gary Shapiro, CEO, CTA. “The record-breaking number of CES Innovation Awards submissions for CES 2025 shows how tech innovation continues to solve the world’s biggest challenges that change the people’s lives.”

The 2025 awards program also included four new categories: Beauty & Personal Care, Fashion Tech, Industrial Equipment & Machinery, and Pet Tech & Animal Welfare.

Next up: CES 2026 will take place in Las Vegas, January 6-9, 2026.
