GSMA cancels LA show, new editor at Light Reading, and more

GSMA cancels LA show, launches virtual event series: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the potential health and travel restrictions, the GSMA has cancelled its MWC Los Angeles show, originally scheduled for Oct. 28-30. Meanwhile, the GSMA has launched a new virtual platform called GSMA Thrive, with the inaugural GSMA Thrive China event taking place June 30-July 2. The GSMA Thrive China 2020 keynote and online sessions will be available to all attendees without charge. There is no word yet if the LA show will have an online component.

New Editorial Director at Light Reading: Fiona Graham (@FionaGraham) has joined @LightReading as its new editorial director. Graham will be responsible for helping direct and shape Light Reading’s global editorial coverage of the technologies, people and finance powering the next-generation communications market. Graham comes to Light Reading from Vodafone, where she was editor-in-chief of Vodafone Group’s new global digital newsroom, Gigalife. Prior to working at Vodafone, Graham worked for BBC News, The Telegraph and WorldRemit.

Mearian moves to IDC: Lucas Mearian (@lucasmearian) has moved on from ComputerWorld into a new role at IDC, where he is responsible for qualitative and quantitative research with a primary focus on IDC’s Software-Defined Infrastructure Compute & Storage program as well as the Storage & Computing Infrastructure Software Platforms program.
