Changes at Light Reading- Ray Le Maistre Replaces Phil Harvey as EIC, Carol Wilson Resigns, Jeff Baumgartner Rejoins MCN and more

Light Reading/Heavy Reading – United Business Media has appointed Ray Le Maistre as editor-in-chief at Light Reading. His areas of coverage include: international news, test and measurement, service provider IT (SPIT), including OSS, BSS, SDPs, cloud enablement and optical networking equipment. Ray, formerly the publication’s International Managing Editor, will now be responsible for overseeing Light Reading’s content strategy and managing an international team of staff and contributors. Ray has been with Light Reading since 2002, is based in the U.K. and has more than 20 years of business technology publishing experience. Prior to joining Light Reading, Ray was the editor at Total Telecom for two years.

Ray will be taking over the responsibilities of Phil Harvey, who had been the EIC at Light Reading for the past five years, after holding various editorial positions with the publication since 2000. We’ll keep you updated on where Phil lands next.

Carol Wilson is leaving Light Reading after more than three years, including the most recent role as Chief Editor of Events. She will be joining the team at TMForum next week. Her replacement has not yet been named. Light Reading provides technology news and analysis for more than 300,000 subscribers each month. The TMForum is a non-profit industry association focused on enabling service provider agility and innovation for more than 900 member companies.

Senior Analyst Aditya Kishore has left Heavy Reading after more than six years of covering digital media applications and services, and their distribution over broadband networks. Prior to joining Heavy Reading, Adi was the Director of Global Media and Entertainment at Yankee Group.

Multichannel News – Jeff Baumgartner has joined the staff as technology editor for Multichannel News. Jeff has been site editor at Light Reading Cable since 2007. Before joining Light Reading, where he covered cable technology and engineering trends, Jeff was editor in chief of CED magazine, then a sister publication to Multichannel News. Before that, he was broadband editor at MCN in 2000. His new position at the magazine will cover a range of technology genres, from broadband and telecommunications to emerging over-the-top platforms.

Jeff’s role, beginning April 8,  will replace Todd Spangler who has left Multichannel News to join Variety as the New York Digital Editor covering digital media with an emphasis on the intersection of technology and TV. Todd was with Multichannel News for more than six years. Multichannel News publisher NewBay Media’s sites reach more than 3 million readers per month.
