Calysto Overview

The ad: Tech digital marketing conference series produced by dmg :: events are held in New York, San Francisco, Tokyo, New Delhi, Sydney, Melbourne, Singapore and London. The events take a strategic approach to online marketing, covering the full spectrum of online marketing channels and draw brand advertisers, agencies, marketers, portals, online publishers and technology providers.

This year, ad: Tech San Francisco had more than 35 breakout sessions covering brand and agency issues, mobile advertising, SEO / PPC, ROI, social, social gaming, tablets, targeting, video, display (still relevant) startup technology, media and more.

Speakers ran the gamut from companies employing online marketing – from Red Bull to Oscar de la Renta. Presenters involved with digital marketing and social media came from well-known brands such as Walgreens, FORTUNE Magazine, Nielsen, Microsoft, FedEx Services, eBay, Hearst Magazines, The Weather Channel Companies, marketing faculty at UC Berkeley, NBC Universal, The New York Times, Electronic Arts, Spotify, HBO, Pandora, Cisco, REI, Fox Broadcasting, CNET.com, Facebook, Adobe, plus many others.

Once again, ad: Tech had packed keynote sessions, and among the most popular were Lisa Utzschneider, VP of global advertising sales at Amazon, and Guy Kawasaki, former chief evangelist of Apple and author of “Enchantment, Reality Check, and The Art of the Start” with the well-known blogger Robert Scoble of Rackspace.

The exhibition hall was full, with Adobe Systems, Amazon Web Services, Bing, Full Sail University, University of San Francisco Online and others having booths. This event also held a Startup Spotlight, with winners announced in four categories: Mobile, Social, Video and Data+Targeting.

As one blogger noted, Ad:Tech offers plenty of opportunities to get noticed. There are some media here, but it’s not an event for product and partnership announcements. Rather, over and over, attendees commented on the networking here – both during the conference and on the show floor, as well as the after-hours parties. As one company commented, “It’s the networking events that make ad: Tech such a success.”
