ITEXPO East
Miami, FL
Miami Beach Convention Center
January 29 – February 1, 2013
Calysto Overview
Now in its 13th year, ITEXPO East, a communications and technology event for enterprise, government and SMB end-users, resellers, service providers, manufacturers and developers welcomed thousands of professionals to the Miami Beach Convention Center for its four-day conference and exhibition. Since 2001, ITEXPO East has been an annual gathering point for buyers and sellers of telecom and other communications and technology products and services. Attendees, exhibitors, speakers, panelist, press and analysts were offered a robust agenda that included keynotes, panels and networking opportunities focused on topics ranging from cloud computing and social media to machine-to-machine communications, unified communications, BYOD and mobile commerce.
Exhibition Hall
The exhibition hall was filled with more than 150 exhibitors representing hardware manufacturers, service providers – including wireless and mobile – cloud and hosted services providers, contact center and telecom software companies, resellers, open source solution providers, testing and monitoring companies, billing providers, and more. Digium, AudioCodes, Ericsson-LG, Cbeyond, Kore Telematics, Polycom, Sansay, ADTRAN, and many others were among the companies that exhibited.
Speakers
The much anticipated keynote by John Sculley, former President of Pepsi and CEO of Apple did not disappoint. Sculley discussed his personal journey from the consumer products world to Silicon Valley, shared anecdotes about his relationship with Steve Jobs and described his commitment to “Experience Marketing”.
According to Jon Arnold, Principal of J Arnold & Associates and panelist at ITEXPO East, “The highlight, as expected, was John Sculley’s onstage interview during StartupCamp7…He was the driving force that made Pepsi a major player based on a simple twist of marketing logic – ‘don’t sell the product, sell the experience’…If it could work with Pepsi, it sure can work with UC, video, social media, mobility, etc…Obviously, it’s hard to do, but it absolutely should be driving every company in our space.”
Co-located Events
As usual, ITEXPO was accompanied by a slew of mini-conferences offering specialized areas of interest to attendees. Additional event programming was offered through a series of collocated shows, including Super Wi-Fi Summit, M2M Evolution Conference & Expo, ChannelVision (CVx) Expo, LatinComm Conference & Expo, Cloud4SMB Expo and StartupCamp7: Comms Edition. According to some attendees, the multitude of events going on at any one time was a little overwhelming. Some found that they were unable to make it to every event that they wanted to attend because there was so much going on.
Press
It is customary for TMC-owned properties to provide the majority of the media coverage for ITEXPO and this year was no exception. Media and video coverage of product and partner announcements, as well as the sessions themselves, were primarily provided by the organizer of the show. Other media players in attendance included FierceMobileIT, FierceEnterpriseCommunications, Programmable Web, Channel Partners and Gartner research.
Up Next
ITEXPO West will be held August 27-29, 2013, in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. The west coast show will focus on new technologies, regulatory issues, and trends in the VoIP, mobility and wireless, IT management and customer experience and interaction market segments.
