Light Reading – More than eight years after selling Light Reading to UBM, Stephen Saunders has repurchased the company he co-founded in 2000. He will also reprise his previous role as CEO. Prior to rejoining Light Reading, Stephen was the Managing Director of DeusM, an integrated marketing services unit of UBM. Stephen is also responsible for founding Heavy Reading, Dark Reading and Internet Evolution. His immediate plans for Light Reading include doubling the size of its database of carrier and service provider executives, and adding a dozen new staff ‒ including eight new editors and analysts. “The bottom line is that the companies that make up the world’s $2 trillion telecom supply chain can expect much more coverage from Light Reading, in much more detail,” said Saunders. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but UBM will retain a significant minority stake in the business. Light Reading provides technology news and analysis for more than 300,000 subscribers each month.

She previously served as a Healthcare and Tech Policy Reporter at The Wall Street Journal. Prior to her time at the Journal, Amy worked for the Austin American-Statesman and the St. Petersburg Times. TechCrunch – Jonathan Shieber has left The Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones Newswires, where he served as a reporter for eight years covering venture capital, clean technology and private equity. He is now a senior editor for CrunchBase, TechCrunch’s technology industry database, where he primarily covers technology, start-ups and venture capital. He also contributes content to the TechCrunch website. TechCrunch receives 14.7 million unique visitors per month.
Slashdot – Vice President and Editor-in-Chief at Slashdot Media, Stephen Wellman has left the organization to join Summit Professional Networks as Vice President of Digital Strategy. Summit provides digital experiences for the insurance, financial services and legal markets. Prior to Slashdot Media, Stephen served as Senior Vice President of Community & Content at Ziff Davis Enterprise and also held a variety of online roles at the UBM Tech division of United Business Media. Before that, he was one of the first employees at FierceMarkets, where he served as the company’s first editorial director overseeing a number of leading online brands, including FierceWireless and FierceBiotech.
The New York Times – Molly Wood has been named the deputy technology editor for the for Business Day section of the NYT covering consumer tech and product reviews. She was previously the executive editor for CNET TV and host and producer of CNET Tech Review since 2000. The New York Times reaches more than 4 million readers.
