Welcome to PR Vibes™, created by Calysto Communications to provide you with key insights into the publications and events in the communications industry. Today, we’re featuring a short interview with Jeff Mucci, CEO, publisher and editorial director, RCR Wireless News, to learn more about the company’s Mobile Broadband Global Tour, Conference Series & News Desk launched during 2011.

Q. What prompted RCR Wireless News to produce the 2011 Mobile Broadband Global Tour, Conference Series & News Desk?
There’s no doubt that the media business today has changed, with seemingly everyone using blogs and twitter to deliver “news” based on press releases. We can’t beat the bloggers in getting the news out fast, so we have to provide a different level of insight. We’re trying to write more of the “so what” behind the news and press releases that come to us. We believe that it is critical for credible news sources to move beyond standard press releases and provide readers with real stories from the field. To that end, we’re getting our editors out into the communities to dig deeper into the story. At RCR Wireless, we see mobile broadband as a key global and local economic driver over the next couple of years and we want to meet these customers face-to-face and produce meaningful insight from case studies We think of it as “globalizing RCR by going local.”

Q. How will it work?
We are sending RCR editors and videographers to a city for a week. Sometimes in conjunction with industry trade shows such as CES, MWC, CTIA, PCIA, NATE, RCA. Sometimes just a hot wireless city. From our news desk, the RCR Wireless News team will conduct interviews and produce video news segments, bringing news and analysis straight from the tradeshow floor to RCRWireless.tv. We will be reporting on the deployment of mobile broadband and its impact on carriers, device manufacturers, equipment companies, consumers, key vertical market segments, and the economy as a whole.

We’re also changing the way we cover tradeshows. Instead of the editors running around, trying to find all the companies that want to meet with us, we’re creating a central location where the companies can come to us. Coverage will be live and virtually on-site.

Q. What are the locations for the conference series?
We will be touring major market hubs around the world, hosting one-day educational conferences and there are speaking opportunities available. Typically we will be partnering with a local or state wireless association. The Tour will include domestic stops in Philadelphia, Pa., Charlotte, N.C., Austin, Texas, Bellevue, Wash., Chicago, Ill., Houston, Texas, Dallas, Texas, Atlanta, Ga., Washington, D.C. and the Silicon Valley region. International locations on the tour include Taipei, Taiwan, Barcelona, Spain, Toronto, Canada, and the nations of Argentina, Chile, Singapore and China. Dates can be found at the RCR Wireless Global Tour & Conference calendar.
