SUPERCOMM Cancelled

Categories:

The one-time largest telecommunications trade show has been cancelled for 2010. Expocomm events will not renew its contract to manage the show, effectively shelving the event for 2010 and probably indefinitely. The show had been planned for October 26-28, 2010 in Chicago, IL.

The show had been having problems for a number of years including struggling to attract attendees; the show has also undergone several ownership and name changes. In 2009, the show was originally scheduled for June and was pushed back until October, reportedly in hopes of cashing in broadband stimulus funding. Industry insiders believe that SUPERCOMM has been upstaged by other wireless and telecom shows such as CTIA and CES.

The decision was made by co-owning SUPERCOMM associations, Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) and United States Telecom Association (USTelecom). We expect that this is the true end of SUPERCOMM. Without the co-owned event, each association will be on their own again as far as revenue-generation (SUPERCOMM previously was the biggest revenue generator for each association). This could mean independent events or other profit generating ideas.
