Zipwhip Further Integrates With Toll Free Industry by Attaining RespOrg Status

Certification Allows Text Carrier to Provision and Manage Toll Free Numbers for Owners as It Enables Sector With Texting Capabilities

SEATTLE, WA–(Marketwired – Oct 8, 2013) – Zipwhip, the world’s first text carrier, announced today that it has further aligned with the toll free number industry by completing the certification process to become a Responsible Organization (RespOrg). There are approximately 450 U.S. RespOrgs, which manage toll free numbers in the SMS/800 database on behalf of number owners.

Zipwhip’s texting application lets businesses text enable existing landline and toll-free numbers to send and receive text messages from any connected desktop, tablet or smartphone. As a RespOrg, Zipwhip can now access SMS/800 services and database systems to confirm the working status and legitimacy of a toll free number.

“There are nearly 40 million toll free numbers in existence today, and tens of millions more will be provisioned soon as new toll free area codes get turned up,” said John Lauer, CEO of Zipwhip. “We believe these numbers are only working half as hard as they could be for the businesses that rely on them–that the ability to send and receive text messages will double the value of toll free numbers for businesses. Gaining status as a RespOrg means Zipwhip will be able to more directly address the challenges of properly modernizing this industry sector.”

RespOrgs are also alerted to any changes in toll free number status–whether numbers are working or non-working or are available to be provisioned–which promotes transparency among RespOrgs and prevents businesses from missing out on the opportunity to leverage certain numbers they may be seeking.

“Texting is the primary mode of communication for the vast majority of consumers,” Lauer said. “A major part of Zipwhip’s charter is to make sure not only that every number that can be is equipped to text, but also to make sure every consumer and every business knows the value of being able to send and receive texts from virtually any number and device.”
