Gartner - Akshay Sharma is leaving Gartner after more than a decade of service to the analyst firm. As a Research Director in Gartner’s Carrier Network Infrastructure group, Akshay’s areas of coverage included: mobile infrastructure, mobile broadband, cloud-based Telco 2.0, SDN and NFV, CDN, Wi-Fi, LTE-U, 5G, TV white spaces, small cells, VoIP, IMS, FMC, and trends in core network distributed softswitch architectures. It is not yet clear where he is headed or who will replace him.
Machina Research - IoT analyst firm, Machina Research has been acquired by Gartner as part of its strategy of expanding its IoT research offerings. Founded in 2011, Machina Research's analyst team will transition in its entirety to Gartner, including founders Jim Morrish and Matt Hatton. Gartner has more than 1,450 research analysts and consultants, with clients in 90 countries.

Gerry Purdy, Ph.D. as Principal Analyst, Mobile & Wireless to support AOTMP’s growth and expansion plans in the mobile and wireless arena. Purdy’s responsibilities will include market research, conferences & events and a number of certification programs. He’ll report to Bill Hinton, VP & GM, Vendor Practice.
Wireless Week - Diana Goovaerts has been promoted from Associate Editor to Editor and is now the main contact for Wireless Week. Former Editor-in-Chief Andrew Berg now serves as the Editorial Director of Advantage Business Media’s manufacturing group. WirelessWeek.com reaches more than 472,000 unique visitors per month.
Light Reading has been acquired by Informa for an undisclosed amount. The publishing, events and market research company was founded in 2000, sold to UBM in 2005 and repurchased by its co-founder and CEO Stephen Saunders in 2014. Saunders announced plans to stay with Light Reading for the foreseeable future. The acquisition of Light Reading is the next stage of Informa’s TMT (Technology, Media & Telecom) expansion program.
